Delhi street vendors to move court against eviction

As seen from this latest article, the Government of Delhi has stll not taken any positive steps for creating a policy for the Streets Hawkers of New Delhi instead of taking out orders to evict them ahead of Common Wealth Games.

"Street vendors in the capital plan to approach the Supreme Court against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) eviction drive targeted at illegal hawkers ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), an association of street vendors, which has over 300,000 members in 20 states, accused the MCD of evicting roadside hawkers without formulating a policy.
'Instead of taking concrete steps to formulate a proper policy for urban street vendors or issuing licences to hawkers, they are evicting them from various city markets,' Mukut Sarma, programme manager of NASVI told IANS"

Ranchi: There was a pleasant surprise awaiting the Ranchiites when they went for their evening round of the marketing. The usually unhygienic looking street side ‘telahs’ were replaced with designer made stalls. “Streets India’, the creators of this hygienic cart said that the design would usher in a new concept of hygiene.
The cart operators would be seen wearing aprons and Chef caps and would serve the customers with gloved hands. The food items will be totally protected from the atmospheric dust as well as the flea menace.

Punjab National Bank has sponsored the programme and offered easy loan of Rs.15 thousand to 27 cart owners. The PNB Zonal Chief S S Banerjee said that the bank would continue to encourage all those who show their dedication to pursue hygienic vending. AGM C Sarangi and M R Biswal were also present.
Earlier inaugurating the first lot of designer carts, Union Food Processing Minister Subodh Kant Sahay said that this was a commendable effort of the Streets India and bound to gain immense popularity as people would no longer hesitate to queue up to such stalls as the food items were properly protected and prepared as well as served hygienically.

The brain behind the Street India conception is IIM Bangaluru MBA, Tanishq. She said that she would soon launch the Street India cart in the rest of the cities of Jharkhand very soon.
